Books Ahoy!

In case you've been living under a rock for the last few weeks, I'm here to let you know that Borders is going out of business. In fact, if you would like to pick through the remaining scrap you have five days and counting. I found this gem and another quality book about two weeks ago (sorry about the whole "not posting thing"). The book pictured above is Graphic Design Referenced written by Bryony Gomez-Palacio and Armin Vit. This book is phenomenal. It takes me back to my roots in Graphic Design. As the name suggests, the book "references" every facet of design, ranging from history to typography to modern firms. I've only made it to page 85, but I anticipate the rest is just as good.

I can't say much about the second book except for the fact that it's called Letterhead & Logo Design. It's also written by Design Army. Enough said.

Work from RLPS

St. Camillus Assisted Living Rendering

This summer I had the privilege of working for RLPS Architects in Lancaster, PA. As an intern I was exposed to in-house marketing and design principles. RLPS was a great place to work because I was a bit out of my element and the fast-paced nature of work helped me learn so much in a short period of time. RLPS was incredibly rewarding, because a majority of their clientele consisted of schools and retirement communities. In other words, they designed according to functionality rather than just aesthetics alone. I could say so much about RLPS but I think I'll post some of my work instead.

As the weeks of the semester wind down, the hair pulling begins. Progress is pretty sweet. All my video is shot and I just have to do a lot of masking :/. No problemo. In case your wondering about the above video, this is just one of my three P.S.A.s which I've coined "I am Generation Health". I still need to add a background track. I think I'm gonna use this:

Pentagram Book

This evening I attended a Central PA AIGA event. Luke Hayman from Pentagram spoke about his design experiences and how he learned from a few mentors, rather than a teacher in a college setting. This is very inspiring and slightly upsetting. Oh well I digress; my friend won this in the raffle for the event and gave it to me for a belated birthday present. I may need to take some time from thesis to read this bad boy!

Progress on All Fronts

I've begun filming and should I just say... wow.... definitely a lot harder than I thought. The whole green screen thing is seeming to be a loss; not completely, but I'm still going to have to do a lot of masking. Oh well. It will totally be worth it in the end.

I managed to take some screen shots of working progress.

I've also worked out the background of the final psa, which will consist of kinetic type. Ok, back to work. See ya!

Animatics for my thesis

Here are the animatics for the 3 PSA's I'm doing for my thesis.  The third one down is the least resolved, but I have an idea to make it more interesting. I'll probably have text in the background appearing as the speaker talks.
